Pass Plus is a training course specifically aimed at new drivers. It was designed and introduced by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA), Insurance Companies and those involved in the driver training industry. The purpose of ‘Pass-Plus' is to assist new drivers to develop and build upon the skills and knowledge learned during training to pass the test. The course is intended to help improve the process of planning and anticipation and to be able to deal safely with any, and all hazards that may present themselves.

The whole process is intended to improve confidence and your overall ability whilst driving on all types of road, be it in a busy city or town, dual carriageway or motorway or the most rural of environments.

To this end the course consists of six practical modules which include;

· Driving in town or city

· Driving in all weather conditions

· Driving on rural roads

· Driving at night

· Driving on dual carriageways

· Driving on motorways

Anyone who holds a full UK licence is eligible to take part in the scheme and, whilst there is no official ‘test' at the end of the course you will be continually assessed at the end of which you must successfully complete all modules to either an ‘achieved' or ‘exceeded' standard.

Pass Plus and motor insurance

When you successfully complete Pass Plus you may qualify for a discount on your motor insurance, (a list of participating companies is available via the DSA or from your Instructor).

pass plusMotor Insurance companies who do support and recognise the scheme may offer those discounts on; Comprehensive, Third Party Fire and Theft or Third Party only policies.
